Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Pathway
INTRODUCTION TO HEALTH SCIENCES | The class provides students with the basic knowledge of health / wellness professionals in private business and industry, community organizations, and health care settings, as well as job opportunities, wage, and duties.
MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY | This course will allow students to learn how to identify medical terms by analyzing their components.
ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY | This course introduces students to the structure of the human body (anatomy) and how the body functions (physiology).
ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY (HONORS) | This course introduces students to the structure of the human body (anatomy) and how the body functions (physiology), but in greater depth. It often emphasizes scientific reasoning, medical applications, and more detailed anatomy.
EMT 1 | The first of two courses designed to provide the knowledge and skills necessary to attain Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification. Classroom instruction includes the roles, attitudes and conduct, well-being, and possible medical/legal issues of the EMT provider. Anatomy and physiology, vital signs, assessing the patient, lifting/moving patients, managing the airway, communicating, documenting, and basic operations and procedures are among the demonstrated knowledge and skills in this course.
EMT 2 | The second of two courses designed to provide the knowledge and skills necessary to attain Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification. Classroom instruction includes knowledge of general pharmacology and skills to provide care for emergency situations including respiratory, cardiovascular, diabetes and altered mental states, allergic reactions, poisoning or overdose, environmental, behavioral, traumatic injuries, obstetric or gynecological, and infants and children.
Healthcare Essentials Pathway
INTRODUCTION TO HEALTH SCIENCES | The class provides students with the basic knowledge of health / wellness professionals in private business and industry, community organizations, and health care settings, as well as job opportunities, wage, and duties.
NUTRITION & PERFORMANCE | This course will examine components of interpersonal and intrapersonal well-being. Students interested in nutrition and wellness as it relates to health, sports performance and disease prevention would benefit from this course. Students will prepare for careers related to nutrition and wellness by looking at various types of diets, nutrition information and disease prevention to identify and apply healthy practices for a lifetime.
HEALTHCARE ESSENTIALS I | This course builds upon Introduction to Health Science. Students will begin in-depth research into a variety of health care careers. Students will explore education pathways, employment settings, wages, roles and responsibilities, certifications and much more related to preparing for a post-secondary experience in a health care field.
EMERGENCY SERVICES ESSENTIALS | This course places a special emphasis on the knowledge and skills needed in medical emergencies. Topics include, but are not limited to, clearing airway obstructions, controlling bleeding, bandaging, methods for lifting and transporting injured persons, simple spinal immobilization, infection control, stabilizing fractures, and responding to cardiac arrest.
HEALTHCARE ESSENTIALS II | This course builds upon Healthcare Essentials I and provides students with Professional Learning Experiences (PLE) to gain extensive knowledge of health / wellness professionals in private / public industry, community organizations, and healthcare settings, as well as job opportunities, wage, and duties. Students will gain extensive knowledge in selected areas of healthcare, specific occupations, skills set, educational requirements, credentials / licensure, and daily routines by participating in Job Shadows or Internships.

Sports Medicine Pathway

CARE OF ATHLETES | This course will offer students an opportunity to gain the knowledge of therapeutic tasks that would be designated by a certified athletic trainer or fitness specialist. Topics covered will include an overview of the athletic medicine team, basic legal and ethical considerations in athletic medicine, basic anatomy terms and concepts, basic patient assessment and basic principles of assessment, management, and rehabilitation as it relates to an athletic population.
BODY SYSTEMS | This course takes an in-depth look at specific topics, areas of research, occupations/careers, and techniques/skills in the health science area. Students may further explore the topics by collaborating, observing, and participating in approved activities with local and regional health care professions for Professional Learning Experiences.

SPORTS MEDICINE I | This course provides advanced sports medicine students with instruction in advanced techniques and orthopedic medicine. This course will give students hands-on experience evaluating injuries commonly sustained by the competitive athlete. It includes all areas of sports medicine such as sports medicine terminology, musculoskeletal anatomy, evaluation, assessment, rehabilitation, and prevention of athletic injuries.
