ART & DESIGN FUNDAMENTALS | Art and Design Fundamentals is an introductory course that explores the essential concepts, media, and techniques used to communicate ideas visually across a range of creative disciplines.
DRAWING/PAINTING I | This class will provide an introduction into two dimensional art. Included in this class students will learn the 7 Art Elements (line, shape, form, texture, color, space, and value) through vocabulary and illustration. These will be used to create each of their solo project pieces.
DRAWING/PAINTING II | Included in this class students will learn the 9 Art Principles (rhythm, pattern, movement, balance, proportion, variety, emphasis, and harmony) through vocabulary and illustration.
DRAWING/PAINTING III | Students will focus on creating 7 high quality pieces in at least 3 different mediums. Choosing from drawing pencils, colored pencils, watercolor pencils, chalk pastels, oil pastels, watercolor paint, and acrylic paint.
DRAWING/PAINTING IV | Students will focus on creating 7 high quality pieces in the drawing/painting media/mediums of their choice. Choosing from drawing pencils, colored pencils, watercolor pencils, chalk pastels, oil pastels, watercolor paint, and acrylic paint.
SCULPTURE/CERAMICS I | Sculpture/Ceramics I is an introductory course designed to engage students in the exploration of three-dimensional art. Over the span of nine weeks, students will learn the foundational elements of art & design as they apply to sculptural and ceramic forms.
SCULPTURE/CERAMICS II | This semester-long course delves deeper into advanced ceramic and sculptural techniques, emphasizing craftsmanship, conceptual development, and creative problem-solving.
SCULPTURE/CERAMICS III | Building upon the skills developed in previous sculpture and ceramics courses, students will experiment with a wide range of media, materials, and techniques to push the boundaries of personal expression and conceptual design.
SCULPTURE/CERAMICS IV | This class emphasizes critical analysis, technical application, and creative investigation within the sculptural and ceramic arts.

SINFONIA ORCHESTRA | The Sinfonia Orchestra is a 9th grade string ensemble focused on the musical and technical skills of developing string players. Emphasis is placed on solidifying basics such as posture and playing position, sight reading skills, rhythmic awareness, pitch accuracy, and group performance through the learning and presentation of works of music from varied periods of music history.
CAMERATA ORCHESTRA | The Camerata Orchestra is composed primarily of 10th grade students and focused on the musical and technical skills of developing string players. Emphasis is placed on intermediate skills including more complex rhythmic awareness, pitch accuracy in third and fourth position, and group performance through the learning and presentation of works of music from varied periods of music history.
CONCERT ORCHESTRA | Emphasis is placed on continuing refinement of basics and the introduction and development of advancing techniques through the learning and presentation of works of music from varied periods of music history.
CHAMBER ORCHESTRA | Emphasis is placed on skills such as vibrato, shifting, complex rhythms, and advanced bowing techniques through the learning and performance of literature drawn from the recognized works of western classical music and important music of other cultures.
BAND | The “Pride of Southwest Kansas” will offer a diversified curriculum content to meet schedule needs within the school year (i.e. marching band, pep band, concert band, etc.). During the first twelve weeks of school, the marching band will perform at all home football games, out-of-town football games, homecoming parade and marching contests (3 within the state).
JAZZ BAND | Enrollment in Jazz Band is based on auditions held during the spring semester. Jazz Band is a performance-based class. Performances are required and include, but are not limited to: Floorshow, band concerts, festivals (2-3 per year) and community outreach.
CONCERT CHOIR | This large mixed ensemble (men, women) is open to all students with or without choral experience. Concert Choir works to achieve excellence in concert performance and musicianship, as well as choral and vocal techniques.
MADRIGALS | This ensemble provides an opportunity to prepare and perform choral works from all musical eras (Medieval – 20th Century), as well as show choir and vocal jazz works.
CLASS ACT CHORACLE | This course provides a challenging opportunity to prepare and perform all styles of choral literature.
ELECTRONIC MUSIC | This hands-on class is open to any student who wishes to understand what is going on currently in music. Students start this course by examining the short and unique history of electronic music, followed by learning to read music and applying it to the synthesizer (electronic keyboard). During this session students will create compositions in the style of Edgar Varese (The Father of Electronic Music) and STOMP (The world-renowned rhythm performance group), as well as four keyboard/synthesizer compositions.
