  • Throughout the school year, various support groups will be available to students. As the groups are formed, staff members will contact students with information. Some groups may have closed membership (meaning it is only for certain students and will be initiated by staff invitation only), and some groups may be open membership (meaning it is open to students to join if they are interested). As groups form, more specific information will be released to the student body.

  • For registration deadlines, visit www.actstudent.org.

    Counselors can help answer registration questions. Please email them or go to their office for help.

    Juniors have an opportunity to sign up for the FREE ACT given in February. Juniors must complete a Google form to participate.

    Current seniors create an account and register themselves on www.actstudent.org. Free ACT study material is available on SchooLinks. The librarians can also connect you to free online materials. Up to 2 fee waivers (total during high school) can be provided for students that qualify for free and reduced lunches; please see your counselor to get the waiver.

  • Through their SchooLinks account, each student can take interest inventories, explore careers, research colleges/military/technical schools, build and update a resume, scholarship search, and more!

  • Check the announcements, Student Service Google Site, and the Flex Time Pass System for pathway speakers and college representatives. The purpose is to give students a chance to explore college and career offerings.

    • Maria Kane, DCHS’s career pathway coordinator, sends weekly emails with upcoming opportunities to students, parents, and staff.
      • Please check your email and participate!
    • Melissa Garcia, DCHS’s college advisor, is available to discuss college opportunities and questions, and schedules various post-secondary speakers and events. She is located in the main office, room S406.
  • Please visit with your Flex Time teacher for more information on conferences. Conferences will take place September 10 & 12, November 12 & 14, February 4 & 6, and April 22 & 24.

DCHS Clubs/Activities

  • Acting Club exists to enlighten students who want to participate in Drama and Communication. We focus on the fall play and ways to improve the Communication and Drama opportunities at DCHS. Any student is welcome to join our midst. We do work at concession stands throughout the year and participation is required.

    Meeting times: Once per month on selected Thursdays
    Fees: A student must pay for field trips.
    To join: Talk to the President of the club, Calleigh Kirkwood, or the Sponsor, Ms. Deal.

  • AYC is an inclusive club that offers a safe environment for students to think critically and respectfully discuss their beliefs. The club will discuss our nation’s founding principles, real-world issues, promote civic engagement, and encourage the new generation to create a better future.

    Meeting times: We will meet on Tuesdays during Flex, every other week.
    Fees: None
    To join: Please let Mr. Pingsterhaus know of your interest and attend one of our weekly meetings.

  • American Sign Language is a visual language that uses hand movements, facial expressions, and body posture to convey meaning within the deaf and hard of hearing community. Students will learn the ASL alphabet, numbers, common word families, and how to construct simple sentences.

  • This is a club for students interested in extracurricular experiences within the topics of Biology, with an emphasis on natural history related adventures. This group competes in the Kansas EcoMeet and organizes unique field trip experiences a few times per year.

    Meeting times: Varies throughout the year; generally one per month.
    Fees: None; some trips may have an entry fee

    • BPA will be inactive during the 2025-2026 school year.

  • The Art Club will provide a creative outlet for students and give them experience and confidence in their artwork. Members will be exposed to different types of media and styles. Students will be encouraged to enter art contests for scholarships, cash prizes, or recognition of their work. The goal of this club is to help students discover and hone their artistic skills. We also want members to see how art can have an effect on the community and people in it. Activities include the scholastics competition, the FHSU Art High School competition, the NCECA nationwide competition, creating amazing chalkboard drawings for events, painting murals, studio nights, volunteering in art agencies, and presenting art exhibitions.

    Meeting times: Mandatory Monthly Meeting and Weekly Studio Days

  • The book club is an opportunity for avid readers to join like-minded students in reading great books. We’ll read a common book each month, and then discuss the book with the club members. Anyone is welcome to attend. Books will be chosen from contemporary young adult literature.

    **DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) is every Wednesday during Flex! Students are welcome to sign up in Minga to come to the library to read quietly.

  • A club for all fans of LEGO.

    Meeting times: Wednesday during Flex and Friday after school
    Fees: TBD
    To join: Email or talk to Mr. Santy so he can add you to the Minga group.

  • DCHS Scholars’ Bowl is open to all grade levels and participates in both Varsity and JV meets with five student teams. Teams compete against other schools to answer questions in six knowledge areas, including math, science, language arts, fine arts, foreign language and current events. DCHS will compete in tournaments, usually consisting of round robin pool play that allows them to compete against most other teams. The season ends with a regional tournament which can allow students to qualify for the state tournament.

  • This group is comprised of students who share Democratic ideals and wish to become more engaged in the political process. We will host events such as voter registration drives and guest speakers.

    Meeting times: At least monthly during Flex, or more often as needed

  • Debate is the formal use of argumentation and reasoning. It is a co-curricular activity, meaning students enroll in the Debate class and compete in this KSHSAA governed event against students from across Kansas. Debate students participate in fundraising and are required to assist in hosting the DCHS Demon Debate Tournament and compete in a required number of out-of-town tournaments. This team utilizes weekend travel (Fridays and Saturdays) to compete with students from all over Kansas. State Championships take place in January, and National Championships are in June for those who qualify. This activity is open to qualified students who possess discipline and a competitive spirit.

    Meeting times: 3rd, 4th, or 5th block Fall Semester

  • This is a club designed to raise cultural awareness in which we promote respect amongst students of any race. We have several activities that allow students to meet with community leaders, visit colleges, help with fundraisers, enter a chance to win a scholarship at the end of the year, and participate in some community service.

    Meeting times: TBD. First meeting will be in September.

  • Students will meet once a week to play the #1 role-playing game in the world, Dungeons and Dragons. Show up to room M136, and we’ll get you started!

    Meeting times: Tuesdays, 3:10 pm
    Fees: None
    To join: Show up! We have everything you need to play.

  • FCA caters to involved students whose interests include growing in their knowledge of Christian beliefs and character development. Bi-weekly Huddles include speakers, games and snacks; in addition, FCA provides opportunities to serve in the school and community. Student membership is open; the club caters to the needs and goals of students involved in school athletics and activities.

  • FCCLA promotes personal growth and leadership development through family and consumer sciences education focusing on the multiple roles of family members, wage earners and community leaders. Members develop skills for life through character development, creative and critical thinking, interpersonal communication, practical knowledge, and vocational preparation.

    FCCLA focuses on building self, family, and people skills. Chapter activities include projects focusing on self, family, community and leadership. FCCLA does a lot of community service, as well. Monthly chapter meetings as well as district, state, and national meetings are available to any DCHS student.

  • Membership is open to those students enrolled in an agricultural education class (or has an approved agricultural career objective). All activities and events focus on career areas and skills related to the agriculture industry. Students develop leadership, technical, and critical thinking skills.

  • Floorshow is the student “talent” show in December. It is DCHS’s “America’s Got Talent” show! All students wishing to participate must first audition in November. Dates for auditions will be announced in the Fall. This is open to all DCHS students.

    Meeting times: Auditions will take place on dates TBD in November. Rehearsals and the Floorshow will take place the first week of December.
    Fees: No fees to join.
    To join: Audition sign-ups will be posted in November. Acts will be limited and will be voted on by a panel of Student Council members.

  • Forensics is a co-curricular activity in which students compete in eleven different events that fall into three categories: Acting (Single or Duo), Speaking (Prepared or Impromptu-Style Speeches), and Reading (Prose, Poetry or a mix). You must enroll in the class, but it is also a KSHSAA approved competitive activity with tournaments nearly every Saturday and occasionally on weeknights from late January through early May, followed by a State and two National Tournaments.

    Meeting times: 4th and 5th Block Spring Semester

  • GSA is a youth leadership organization that exists to show support for LBGTQ+ students. Our goals are to:

    1. create safe environments in schools for students to support each other and learn about homophobia, transphobia, and other oppressions
    2. educate the school community about gender identity and sexual orientation issues; and
    3. reduce discrimination, harassment, and violence in schools.

    Please note that allies are encouraged to attend, you’ll get from GSA what you put into it, no one will ask you to label yourself, and GSA is here to support all students. GSA will meet in T166.

  • This club is an organization for internationally minded students who enjoy international cultural experiences as well as social, educational, and outdoor events while helping the community.

    This club is available to anyone who is interested in learning more about different cultures. The club participates in a wide variety of activities throughout the year. We will have opportunities to talk to people who are from other countries and those who have visited other countries.

    Meeting times: Thursdays during Flex.

  • Students wanting to help make a positive difference in DCHS and the Dodge City community are encouraged to join. Students will engage in community service, learn and practice positive coping skills, and participate in activities to help defeat the stigma of mental health. Mind Matters provides a space for students to come as they are for peer support and encouragement.

    • Assisting the Ford County Suicide Coalition is another partnership connected with this club.

  • The annual musical is performed in February. Auditions will be held in November. Each year DCHS presents a Broadway-style musical. We are looking for all singers, actors, and dancers, who would like to be a part of the musical. This is open to all DCHS students. In the past we have performed classic musicals such as The Music Man, Les Miserables, Guys and Dolls, and new musicals such as High School Musical, Freaky Friday, Seussical, and The Addams Family.

    Meeting times: Audition dates - November 10th and 11th @ 7:00 pm. Musical schedule and announcement to come at a later date.

    To join: Talk to Mr. Chirchir if you’re interested! We also need crew/backstage help.

  • Dodge City High School is a charter member of the National Honor Society. The National Honor Society (NHS) elevates a school’s commitment to the values of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. DCHS NHS students will complete various community and individual service projects throughout the year. Students must be a junior or senior with at least a 3.5 GPA, complete the application, and be approved through the selection process.
    The application will be released in August.

    Meeting times: August 26, 2025; September 23, 2025; October 28, 2025; November 4, 2025; December 16, 2025; January 27, 2026; February 17, 2026; March 24, 2026; April 21, 2026; May 5, 2026.

    • Additional volunteer time commitments will be required throughout the year.

    Fees: $10
    To join: Add yourself to the “NHS Apply Only” Google Classroom page (code: ubliodr) to access the application. Complete all sections carefully. Further instructions are in the application. All information will be used by the faculty council to assist with the selection process. Completion of the application does not guarantee selection. Submit the application through the assignment link in Google Classroom by Tuesday, September 16 at 3:30 pm. No late applications accepted.

    Important Note: Per the official NHS bylaws, Ms. Pele (the standing adviser) does not select candidates for NHS membership. Selection decisions are made solely by a committee of faculty members (the Faculty Council). This process is outlined in the NHS handbook and is not subject to individual discretion.

  • These are classes – not clubs. Students who are interested in being on this staff must meet class course requirements in order to be enrolled. See Mrs. Rolland D341 for more details. Once on staff, students form part of Quill and Scroll, which is the International Honorary Society for high school journalists. This organization is open to students who have participated in the journalism class for at least three semesters and are in the upper third of their class scholastically. Students must be either a junior or senior. They must have completed superior work in some phase of journalism or school publications. Recommendations by Publication advisor is required.

    Meeting times: During 1st block class and during Flex when scheduled throughout the year, which is usually twice a month.
    Fees: Fundraise by selling ads to cover the fees (usually $35 per person, but the student doesn’t pay that).

  • This committee is for juniors who wish to take part in helping plan for and set up for prom. We meet every other week and work on fundraising and planning! If interested in the prom committee, please visit with TBD.

  • This is a student led club designed to enrich student learning in the design and construction areas using project based learning. Students will learn to operate CNC, Laser, and more to complete hands-on projects.

    Meeting times: Flex, before and after school with prior approval.
    Fees: None
    To join: All students enrolled in any CTE class are eligible.

  • An opportunity for students to socialize and have fun together based on their hobby of playing video games. Students will have an opportunity to play multi and single player games, and spend time discussing gaming strategies and preferences. You must sign up to attend. Students are also welcome to bring their own handheld consoles like Nintendo Switch, 2DS, PlayStation. Students are expected to maintain a minimum of a “C” in all classes to participate in the club.
    Eligibility: Students must maintain at least a “C” average in all classes to participate.

    Meeting times: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday during Flex; Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday after school; and the 3rd Saturday of the month for local competitions and fundraising
    Fees: $25 annual fee to compete at the state level, plus $15 for a club shirt

    • These fees can be waived by volunteering to help with competitions on Saturdays

    To join: Announcements will be made when state competition positions open. Sign-up is required to attend meetings. You must also join the DCHS KSHSAA PlayVS Online club.

  • SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. SkillsUSA helps each student excel. The program is open to all students enrolled in any of the Computer Science, Game Design, Digital Media, Video Production, Architecture and Construction Pathways. Students must meet the academic requirements for clubs and activities and demonstrate excellent attendance to meetings and classes.
    *Students must be enrolled in one of the Skills USA pathways-Computer Science, Game Design, Digital Media, Video Production, Architecture and Pre-Construction, Construction, or Welding.

    Fees: Must participate in fundraising activities to raise money for membership and State/National competition fees.

  • The Student Athletic Training program assists the Certified Athletic Trainers in providing medical coverage and current/relevant health care information to the student-athletes involved in DCHS athletics. The program is open to all students (9-12) in good standing at DCHS. They must meet the academic and code of conduct requirements set forth by the DCHS Athletic Department and demonstrate good attendance.

  • StuCo is a student-elected organization which represents the student body. StuCo’s goal is to improve the school environment through positive leadership opportunities. StuCo representatives communicate with the administration and student body about concerns related to student improvement. Students can join a student council in a variety of ways. Each spring, students will be elected to serve as Student Coordinators. At the start of each semester, Flex Captains will be elected to serve on their community’s council. All students will be able to join any time of the year by completing the student council “Work On” program. More information can be found with your Community Directors or in Room C355.

    Meeting times: Student Coordinators meet in Flex weekly. Community Councils will meet Monthly.
    Fees: There are no fees to join Student Council.
    To join: Students will be elected each spring to serve the following year. Students can join by completing the “Work On” program any time of year. More information can be found with your Community Directors or with Miss Deters (C355) or Mr. Ketron (C368).

  • This club is for you to experience a fun growing sport that is easy for anyone to learn and enjoy!

    Meeting times: Saturday mornings at 8 am at the outdoor or indoor turf depending on weather and availability. I will keep you updated on location.

  • This is a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) program that provides an innovative curriculum that cultivates kids’ academic interests and expands their knowledge. EXITO incorporates hands-on skill building activities, career exploration, and other enrichment opportunities. Homework assistance, tutoring, and transportation are also offered. Open to all DCHS students; please enroll with Ms. Santiago and Mrs. Trent in the SSC.

    Meeting times: MONDAY, TUESDAY, THURSDAY, FRIDAY (no Wednesdays) 3:05-4:15 pm
    Fees: No fee to join.
    To join: Come to Student Services and talk to Ms. Santiago for permission slip and bus from. If you need transportation, the wait will be 2-3 days.
